Welcome

Thank you for your interest in applying for the Head of Adult Services – Urgent Care role or the Head of Commissioning, Contracting and Market Management role at the London Borough of Brent.  These are key appointments within the authority’s Adult Services department.

You could not have picked a more exciting time to be part of Brent which is a wonderfully diverse and ambitious borough. Our population is growing at speed.  There is a palpable entrepreneurial spirit about the place.  We have good schools, a vibrant cultural offer, award winning parks and a reputation for fostering and celebrating community cohesion. Our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

Someone recently said to us “Brent is booming” and it is true. We are keen to ensure that we use our assets and resources effectively to drive business and housing growth in the borough and so help secure a stronger financial base for the Council along with a thriving economic base for business and residents alike.

However, we also want to ensure that this success is felt and shared across the borough, and that we are well placed to support our most vulnerable residents. The recent creation of an Integrated Rehab and Reablement Service, delivered jointly with our health partners is a good example of the type of innovative service we want to create in Brent, and a good idea of our direction of travel. We are leading on health and social care systems reform both at local and regional level, and we have a strong commitment at all levels in the Council towards greater integration.

The last few years have seen major transformation not just within the community but within the Council as well, with a shift from doing things ourselves to making things happen through communities. This has meant a changing culture and developing different relationships with local people as they build independence and resilience.  Despite the large cuts we are experiencing, we continue to have high expectations and an uncompromising desire to continue to deliver high quality services to our residents.

We can assure you that you would be joining a Council where staff are proud of their work, passionate and ambitious about better lives for local people and confident about success. There is a strong appetite for change and you will be assured of a warm welcome.

If you share our passion and commitment to improving the quality of life for all Brent residents, then we want to hear from you.

Best wishes

Phil Porter and Helen Woodland
Strategic Director Community Wellbeing and Operational Director Adult Social Care
